Additional Info on 2 new cases…

There have been some good differentials supplied for my two new cases from yesterday. One of them has already been correctly diagnosed. THe other is ‘oh so close!’ Here is some additional informaiton i.e. physical exam findings that should help. One case should be easily diagnosed with this information, the other may remain elusive but [...]

Cutting Edge

Enoch Choi has a nice commentary on medical blogs. Of course, yours truly is mentioned.. (Feign some coy bashfulness)…and I’m cutting edge, too! Thanks, Enoch.

Corwin Experience

Jeff Corwin is hot. But I knew I was in love when he called a cambodiam tortise “Gamora” tonight. I think only 30 something geeks will understand this one. Quack if you agree.

more firsts…

Two more firsts for me today. I am learning that the only way to get experience is to see lots of patients… Case A) 2 year old boy comes in after pulling on his fathers arm. Dad refused to let his own hand move, playing a game of “I’m stronger than you” with his son. [...]

Strange search requests

well, I’ve been collecting more strange search requests and today had a sad one, so I thought i”d post some searches that land people at my site: cat+concussion+how+long+last Dog with broken femur Pim ped out lawn tractor Bon-ers (how many of these searches will I get??? I never, ever used that word in any post!) [...]

angry?

I guess spanky enjoys my work, he’s got me blogrolled and visited today. So I visited his place and read his entry “time for a trip to the ER.” I lauged really hard at number 1. Number 2 got me going as well. (Only because his rants really are an accurate reflection, if distorted, of [...]

Raging on

The debates and rebuttals continue regarding standford’s newest policy to add 200 hours of study to their medical school curriculum. Do I really have the energy tonight to provide a rebuttal for each point made? No, not really, but I will say that if Dr. Bradley hadn’t minored in film in his pre-clinical years, perhaps [...]

ortho compliment

Today, while in the middle of evaluating a trauma patient, the ortho resident who saw my football player from yesterday came down to the ED to find me and compliment me on what a good job we did reducing the kids finger! He still said they’d have to put a pin in it to align [...]

good cases

11 year old football player comes in with his ring finger angled at about 70 degrees across the top of his middle finger, with the knuckle pointing towards the pinky. X-ray confirms a simple fracture with rotation and angulation. Ortho was in surgery, so I called them with my plan…hematoma block, manual reduction, splinting, follow-up [...]

OOPHP

No, that’s not an expletive in the title, it’s the name of the chapter I’m working on…”Object Oriented PHP”. In the next chapter we start using mySQL. My domain name has been registered, and although it wasn’t my first pick, or my second or third, it’s still a good name…whether or not anyone will remember [...]
