Super Quick Swim workout!

Last night’s swimming work out was cut short by a lightening storm. I had just finished my warm up of Total Immersion Drills, and was on my 2nd 50 yard lap when I hear the lifeguard’s whistle blow. Two teenagers were playing in the deep end under the diving board next to teh swimming lanes, and for the first time since I’ve been a member of the pool (about 2 1/2 years), the lifeguard was older than 18. I figured that an adult lifeguard finally had the nerve to enforce pool rules and was blowing the whistle at the teens living dangerously in the deep end. (No offense to teen life guards, but in this pool, it seems basic pool rules go unobeyed and preteen boys run with reckless abandon whist throwing wet nerfs back and forth over the swim lanes).

Anyway, I was thrilled that finally a responsible person was looking out for dangerous fun, and continued my leisurely lap of the pool focusing on my 2 beat kick, just like the 800 meter freestylers did on the TV. I reach the end of my 2nd 50 only to have the whole pool screaming at ME! “We have to get out, we have to get out!”. I quickly hopped out of the pool and looked around to see I was the last one to heed the warning. Lighting had (according to the lifeguard) “gone through the building”. Hmmm. I think I would have heard (or felt) something loud if that had really happened. The true story is that there was a quick brown-out…just as good a reason to get out of the pool. Alas, my olympic dreams will have to wait another day.

Resting heart rate AFTER WORK today was 54! Cool. My arms look better and my belt fits smaller too.
